Home security is for everyone, and you do not have to be a homeowner to obtain a security system.
Your ADT-monitored home security system will be one of the most user-friendly systems on the market for children to use and the equipment is pet friendly up to 60 pounds.
The Essential plan requires a landline. However, all of our other plans offer cellular monitoring and do not require a working landline.
In many areas throughout the U.S., we offer same-day installation. In most cases, we can have a security advisor to your home in 24 to 48 hours.
The process takes approximately 3-4 hours to install and activate your ADT-monitored home security system.
$99 is the fee for professional installation of the system within your home. This includes activating and testing your system to ensure it is working.
The Visa gift card is a gift to you, and cannot be used to pay for the installation fee.
If you move after two years, ADT will provide you with a $100 discount on the installation of certain ADT-monitored security systems. (Certain restrictions apply.)
You may save up to 20% on your homeowners insurance premium.
Yes, a 36-month monitoring agreement is required with all ADT monitoring plans.
Your first payment includes the prorated amount for the month your system was installed, plus the next month in advance. This payment comes out of your payment method within 72 hours of your installation. Your following payment should reflect the monthly payment amount on your contract.
Your first bill is charged to the payment method used to pay your installation charge. After, your payment will be withdrawn from the account designated for your monthly bill. This paperwork takes one billing cycle to be processed with ADT.
There are a few instances in which ADT and Protect Your Home both withdraw a customer’s first payment for monthly services. We will determine the proper company to bill your account and the other company will make sure to refund the incorrectly charged account. You will receive your refund within 10 to 14 business days with a credit card and within 30 days from a checking account.
Your current account will continue to be billed for 30 days after you notify ADT of your relocation, while the cancellation is processed. Once your new system is installed, contact ADT at 1-888-725-6509 to determine the prorated refund.
It takes 8-10 weeks to process paperwork and your incentive claim.
You have three days after the activation of your system to cancel and have your system removed. After three days have passed, you may be required to pay the balance of your contract with cancellation.
Your Certificate of Installation should arrive via email three days after your system is installed. If you do not receive your certificate via email or you do not have an email address, you can request for a copy to be sent to you by U.S. Postal Service or fax by chatting with a customer support team member or by calling 800-689-9554.

The Motion Sensor can see out 30 feet and sweep the room at a 90-degree angle when placed in the corner of a room.
First you must ensure you have the green “Ready” checkmark on your keypad. Arm your system to “Away” mode. Proceed to a “Delay” entry door. This is the door you use when you enter your house when the system is armed. Open and close the door. This will allow the system to remain in “Away” mode. If you do not open a “Delayed” door, then the system will go back to “Stay” since you did not “leave”.
Once the Exit Delay has expired the system is now armed. The motion detectors in your home need 3-5 minutes to learn the environment for the room. During this time it is important that no one enters the room. This allows the Motion Sensor to register any heat signatures or large items in the room. After 3-5 minutes your motion detector is now armed and may be tested by walking into the room.
In order to use the standard four-button keychain, press and hold the button for 3 full seconds within 150-300 feet of the main keypad. A red LED light will light up to indicate that the button has been pushed long enough.
The operation for the 2-way keychain remote is identical, but it gives you a response on the screen to let you know that the button you pushed on the keychain was received by the security panel.
Bypassing allows you to leave a sensor unmonitored while the rest of your system is armed.
Your Security Advisor will adjust the brightness on your keypad based on your preferences during your installation. If you need to adjust your brightness after your system is installed, please call Customer Care and they will walk you through the process.
This video will give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace the batteries in your sensors.
Is your motion detector located above a heater vent or a furnace? Are objects such as window blinds or curtains located within range of the detector? If you have removed any moving objects from the room and false activations continue, your equipment may need to be adjusted by a technician. Click to Chat with a customer support team member or call 1-800-689-9554 to troubleshoot the issue.
Your home security system gives you a delay period so you may disarm the system before it is activated. This delay can be programmed for anytime between 30 seconds up to 3 minutes.
Possible reasons why your system may lose communication with ADT include an inoperable phone line, alarm equipment that is not functioning properly or an internal issue at your phone company. Click to Chat with a customer support team member or call 1-800-689-9554 to troubleshoot the issue.
Before arming your home security system, it is important to make sure all of your system’s zones are secure. This is indicated by a green check mark next to the LCD screen. If the check mark is not lit, this means a zone is not secure. In the event a zone is not secure, use the scroll buttons on the top left side of your touchpad to find any unsecure zones. A zone will usually be considered not secure if a window (a zone) is open or you have your system set to ignore a certain zone. If a zone is not secure, secure it (whether via the control panel or by physically closing the door or window) and check the system again.
To arm your system while you are home, make sure all zones are secure and the green light is on, then press the “Stay” button to arm all perimeter sensors. This level of protection means that all exterior devices are armed, while all interior devices, such as motion detectors, are disabled.
If you arm the system to “Stay”, but someone still needs to leave the house (for example, your spouse is leaving for work in the morning and you arm the alarm before he or she leaves), they will have 3 minutes to exit your home before the security system is activated.
To arm your system before leaving your home unoccupied, make sure all the zones are secure and the green light is on, then press the “Away” button to arm the entire system. After arming the system to “Away,” you’ll have 90 seconds to exit your home before the system is activated.
In the event of an emergency, press and hold the desired panic button for 3 seconds to alert ADT to dispatch the appropriate emergency service. The following panic button symbols are located on your digital keypad:
Badge: This button summons the local police
Flame: This button summons the local fire department
Triangle with Exclamation Point: This button summons Emergency Service Providers
